St. Ignatius primary school had been started by the Jesuit Fathers of Detroit and the US Government. They had completed all of the work that they had aimed for but this had only taken them to grade 2. The Foundation stepped in to help complete the school so that it would complete to Form 7. In July 2006 the school had its official grand opening with the attendance of His Honour Mr. McAllister High Commissioner of Canada to Tanzania.
